Spot Light on Local Artist Callie Russell.

Spot Light on Local Artist Callie Russel.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Callie Russell a day before her Birthday. I was introduced to her work by co-editor Matthew Breault, who happens to be her cousin. Her portraits really spoke to me,  and when I learned a little more about her background, I had a new appreciation for her creations.

Callie shared with me that when she was young, while visiting her father in Mississippi, he would keep her busy by assigning her animals to draw. Growing up in California, her Stepdad influenced her as well with his sketches.

It always amazes me how you can track the evolution of an artist by subtle changes in the progression of their skill & style. Particularly with outside-artists, who have already evolved through pure passion, and with no formal training.
